Accessibility statement
RIOS1931 Oswald Riemer Uhrenarmbandfabrik GmbH strives to make its online shop at rios1931.de accessible in accordance with the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG) and its ordinance (BFSGV). The benchmark is the harmonised standard EN 301 549, which refers to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, for web content.
This statement was prepared on 30 September 2026.
Description of the service
The online shop is an e-commerce service exclusively for businesses in the watch trade. All visitors can browse watch straps, clasps, tools and accessories and search by name or item number. Approved dealers log in, choose a version (colour, width, length, clasp), add items to the cart and order on account. Watch retailers can apply for a dealer account and contact us via a contact form, e-mail or phone. The shop is available in German and English (English addresses start with /en/).
How to use the shop
- Navigation: The main menu at the top opens Collection, Products, RIOS1931 and Manufactory. With the keyboard, open a submenu with the small arrow button right after the menu item (Enter or Space) or with the down arrow key; Escape closes it. On mobile devices the menu button opens a side panel; press Escape or the close button to close it. At the top of each page, the link “Skip to content” leads directly to the main content.
- Choosing a product: On the product page, select colour (colour swatches; the name of the selected colour is shown as text below), width at the lug and at the buckle, length and, where offered, the clasp (silver/gold). All fields can be reached with the keyboard. If a selection is missing, the shop names the missing fields when you click “Add to cart”.
- Quantity: Change the quantity in the number field or with the buttons “Decrease quantity” and “Increase quantity”. The cart recalculates immediately.
- Ordering: At checkout, enter your billing details, confirm the terms and conditions; payment is on account. Required fields are marked; errors are listed as text above the form.
- Language: Switch between German (DE) and English (EN) at the top right; you stay on the same page.
- Zoom: Pages can be zoomed to 200 % and more in the browser; content reflows without horizontal scrolling.
How the requirements are met
- Structure with headings, navigation regions and a main region; “Skip to content” link.
- Full keyboard operation with a visible focus indicator on links, buttons and form fields; submenus open with a button or the arrow key and close with Escape; collapsed submenus are not part of the tab order.
- Colour swatches, clasp selection, quantity buttons and menu buttons have names and states (selected, expanded/collapsed) that screen readers can read. The selected colour and clasp are also shown as text and announced when they change.
- Form fields have visible labels; required and invalid fields are marked and named in the error message. Information already entered is kept after an error message.
- Text contrast meets a ratio of at least 4.5 : 1 (tested with axe-core).
- The language of each page is declared (German/English); German text on English pages is marked as German.
- Product images have a text alternative with product name, colour and view; decorative icons are hidden from screen readers.
- Layout works on mobile and desktop without horizontal scrolling down to a width of 320 px.
- Spam protection with ALTCHA without picture puzzles: the check runs in the background, you only tick a checkbox.
Known limitations
Based on our review, the shop is partially accessible. The following limitations are known:
- Legal texts: Terms and conditions, privacy policy and cancellation policy are also available in English; the German version is legally binding in each case.
- Product texts: Some items (currently 68 of 283) do not yet have an English description; the English pages then show the German text.
- Product images: Some items do not have product photos yet. The text alternative of existing images gives the product name, colour and view, but does not describe the construction; these details are given in the text of the product page.
- Documents and e-mails: Invoices and packing slips in PDF format and the shop’s e-mails (for example the order confirmation) have not yet been checked for accessibility. The acknowledgement of a dealer registration is only available in German.
- Scope of testing: Testing was automated (axe-core) and manual with the keyboard. Testing with screen readers (for example NVDA or VoiceOver) and with people with disabilities is still pending and may reveal further issues.
We are working on removing these limitations. If you need information from any of these areas in another format, we will be happy to help (see contact).
